Surviving Bridal Show Season Jan 01
Come visit my booth!

Come visit my booth!

Experts in the wedding industry tell us that December is one of the busiest months for engagements over the Christmas holidays, thus prompting the bridal show frenzy that begins in early January and continues through the spring, and begins again in early fall. Having participated in hundreds of bridal shows as a vendor, and attending several shows with my son and his fiancé while planning their wedding, these are a few tips I have learned along the way that I hope will help you survive attending bridal shows in your local market.

* Watch for local advertising  on the radio, local newspaper or wedding vendors for ticket discounts for purchasing your tickets in advance, also purchasing your tickets in advance sometimes will also pre-register you for prizes.

* Before you go I would suggest that you come up with a unique wedding  email such as jonesandsmithwedding@gmail.com and then print sheets of return address labels- this will save you valuable time not having to print your name, address and phone number for each booth you visit as most of them will have a giveaway of some sort.

* If possible, take a friend or two with you to help carry all the collateral you will pickup along the way from vendors, bridal shows can be loud and busy so having another set of eyes and ears will help you to recall what vendors you were really drawn to. Most bridal shows give you a bag with registration, but I would suggest you take a large strong bag with you to carry everything in just in case.

*Have a plan and think about your top priorities for vendors- Is your priority finding the perfect wedding dress, venue, wedding cake or Honeymoon? When you first arrive to the bridal show and check in, you will be given a list of vendors-take the time to find the location of your top priority vendors, visit them first before they give away their information or their booth gets crowded and you will not be able to have a quality conversation with them.

If you are in the Charlotte, North Carolina area, come visit me at the Carolina Bridal Fair  at the Cabarrus Arena on January 17,2016- I will be in booths 503-504-lots of other great vendors such as Classic Bride and Formals, Nona’s Sweets and Bakery (seen on Platinum Weddings) and Erin Padgett Events will be there as well. I would love to talk with you about planning your Destination Wedding or Honeymoon. Not finding any local bridal shows in your area or a vendor that you are connecting with? I have clients from around the world and would love the opportunity to assist you.

The benefits of using a Travel Agent to book your trip to Hawaii May 22

Many clients are used to booking their own flights on line, researching hotels and destinations, but when it comes to booking a difficult multi-island itinerary to Hawaii, the benefits of using a professional travel agent to assist you in putting together the many components of these itineraries are many. Hawaii master destination specialist such as myself, have spent years visiting the islands many times, at least once a year to keep up with the current status of resorts, new restaurants and activities that have become available so they can share this information with their clients. One main benefit of our many trips to the islands is the personal relationships we maintain with the sales teams on property at the preferred resorts throughout the islands which is the next best thing to us personally being on island to take care of our clients. A trip to Hawaii is on most everyone’s bucket list, regardless of the reason they are planning a trip to the islands, and personally I try my very best to make sure that the itineraries are as close to the perfect for each client as possible.

**  First thing to consider is how do you decide which island(s) you wish to visit?  What airline works the best from  your home city? Will you need transfers or rental car ?

** What resort experience are you looking for ? Luxury resort with first class amenities? small boutique resort? Directly on the Beach? Nearby restaurants and activities? Are amazing swimming pools important to you?

** What activities are you looking to do? Is there a special activity such as Pearl Harbor or Volcano National Park that you want to include in your itinerary? Do you want to zipline, snorkel, get surf lessons, see waterfalls? A Hawaii specialist agent will be able help you work through your wish list and help you figure out which ones you will be able to fit into your schedule.

** Hawaii destination specialist will be able to recommend the best restaurants, make suggestions about fun tours and activities, suggest the best travel dates to avoid peak season charges.

** Hawaii destination specialist can assist you with planning your Destination Wedding, whether just for the two of you or making arrangements for a group.

So do yourself a favor, work with a professional travel agent, preferably a Hawaii Master Destination Specialist such as Linda Dancer, save yourself a lot of time and stress and ensure you will have the trip of a lifetime to Hawaii.

Maui – Below the Surface Apr 19

Diving in Maui

As a Maui Master Destination Specialist, I can confidently suggest tours, activities and restaurants on Maui, but since I am not a certified Scuba Diver, I decided to refer to my two favorite experts my husband and my son for their opinion of two of my favorite companies. Recently attending a family wedding on Maui, I had the perfect opportunity to book a couple days of diving for them, and although I had used  Hawaiian Rafting Adventures and Maui Dive Shop  for other clients in the past, I was a little nervous and crossed my fingers all would go well. It is so gratifying when your expectations are exceeded.
First dive was with Hawaiian Rafting Adventures, Capt. Stephen Juarez  quickly took charge of everything, the boat trip over to Lana’i was amazing ,they had the opportunity to watch whales playing in the warm waters off Maui first hand.  Leaving from Lahaina, the trip over to  Lana’i takes approximately 30 minutes, Capt. Steve knows exactly the spot to take divers- The Cathedrals was such a spiritual dive site, then they were treated to watching Lanai’s resident pod of over 100 spinner dolphins play and ride the bow as the travel along the shoreline of Lana’i.  Only one dive trip per day, 12 divers maximum, Capt. Steve does not have to be on a rigid time frame to rush back and grab another group of divers, so he is able to share special sites along the way with his divers. Capt. Steve never dives without digital cameras so divers are treated to slide shows of their day in the Digital Media Center in their store.
Cathedral Dive Site

On the second day, I had booked them with Maui Dive Shop  ( Wayne Allen – was their dive master)for the two tank  Molokini and St. Anthony Wreck Dive – I had snorkeled around Molokini  and I knew the underwater life that I could see was amazing, so I knew this would be a great site for them. St Anthony wreck dive is a 65 foot fishing boat that was sunk off Mokapu Beach in Wailea back in 1997, and at 60-70 feet deep is part of Maui’s only official artificial reef. Tires filled with concrete  are now home to over 50 species of fish and several green sea turtles call the wreckage home and are happy to pose for photos.

The second dive of the day was Molokini Crater, a marine sanctuary below and bird sanctuary above. The visibility here averages 100 feet and provides a panoramic view of underwater life. Molokini Crater is one of the few places on earth that a diver can see Hawaiian garden eels, masked angelfish,long-nose hawk fish and other fish endemic only in Hawaiian Island Waters.

My final justification came when we returned from Maui and the May 2013 issue of  PADI SPORT DIVER  was in the mailbox, and low and behold when my husband was flipping through the magazine on pages 66-68 they were featuring Hawaiian Rafting Adventures and Maui Dive Shop, and talked about the experiences they had just experienced on Maui.

So many reasons to get married in Hawai’i Mar 29
Amazing Locations
Congratulations on your engagement!
Let the search begin for the perfect location to have the ceremony of your dreams. As you begin to think about your guest list, wedding dates and possible locations I hope that you will include a destination wedding in Hawai’i on your list of options.
It is so easy to get married in Hawai’i:
** You do not need to be a resident of Hawai’i or even a citizen of the United States to be married in the Hawaiian Islands** No waiting period and no blood test** Simply complete a marriage license application and then you and  your future spouse must appear together before an official marriage license agent on the island you choose, currently the license fee is $60 cash ** Your marriage license will be valid for 30 days and after your ceremony a marriage certificate will be mailed to you.
Amazing locations – The islands of Hawai’i are truly one of the most romantic places on earth,so many beautiful options to choose from for your ceremony from simple and elegant on the beach such as this beach ceremony at Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows, lush rainforest throughout the islands, amazing botanical gardens, fern grotto, onboard a boat at sunset, by a waterfall, historic church or oceanfront chapel, beachfront restaurants such sa The Beach House Restaurant on Kauai , privately owned venues such as the White Orchid Beach House ,and I work with the wedding team at many resorts closely to plan my clients weddings as well. In addition several popular Luau venues such s Old Lahaina Luau on Maui and  Paradise Cove Luau on Oahu offer wedding packages before the luau and the wedding party can attend the luau for your celebration dinner or reception.

Fresh Orchids

So many Hawaiian Cultural Elements can be combined into your ceremony such as a lei (the symbol of love and aloha) worn by both the bride and groom whether a lei of flowers around the neck or a woven floral headband for the bride and an open strand of maile leaves for him. Blessed to have so many beautiful flowers that grow fresh on the islands such as orchids, plumeria, lokelani rose, ginger flowers, pikake, tuberrose just to name a few and when blended with more traditional wedding flowers -so romantic. Hawaiian Kahu (Ministers) will often incorporate their native language into the ceremony through beautiful chants or songs, others will dress in their native Hawaiian attire, many other beautiful cultural elements can be added.
Planning a destination wedding from afar can be stressful that is why it is so important to work with a travel professional and an experienced wedding coordinator so that together they can make sure you have the wedding of your dreams and no detail is left to chance. Every detail that you would normally have to consider when planning your wedding at home will be addressed from time, location, photographer, flowers, food, music, wedding cake, color scheme and wedding theme. Your travel professional will assist in coordinating accomodations, flights, rental cars for the wedding party as needed.
Once the ceremony is over,  you are already in the pefect place for your Honeymoon, whether you elect to remain on the same island for honeymoon or take a short flight to a neighbor island there are so many activities and experiences on each of the islands from sunset dinner cruises, waterfalls to explore, horseback riding, kayak to a secluded cove for a private picnic, oceanfront couples massages  the choice is endless.
Regardless of the island that you choose come experience the Pilialoha (Romance) that is Hawai’i  !

Magical Weddings at Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua Dec 28

Napili Lawn Ceremony ** photographer Ron Starr

Weddings at the Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua  are too special  not to deserve their own blog post.  Completing my series of three blog post about this amazing resort, there was simply no way I could just mention that they happen to do weddings at this resort in passing. Magical weddings at the Ritz-Carlton,Kapalua  capture the spirit of Hawaii with unforgettable ceremonies and fanciful receptions.  Whether an intimate ceremony and reception for just the bride and groom or a large wedding party the  dedicated wedding staff at Ritz-Carlton Kapalua can handle all the details from start to finish. Breathtaking views  from the cliffs  that overlook the ocean, expansive lawns, elaborate ballrooms  regardless of the theme of your wedding the team can handle everything from decor, culinary needs and wonderful personalized service.

The Honolua Chapel

Venues  such as the Honolua Chapel shown here ( once served as a place of worship for the surrounding plantation community) seats 60, plantation style A-frame structure with a small steeple for couples looking for a more traditional location, The Gazebo – located just outside the Honolua Chapel offers ceremonies with up to 100 guests a ceremony with refreshing trade wind breezes and dramatic views of the Pacific Ocean,  The Napili Lawn – panoramic ocean views of the Kapalua Cliffside and Honolua Bay, centrally located between the hotel’s  Napili Wing and the ocean, The Beach House Lawn – this expansive  manicured beachfront lawn is ideal for large private wedding parties and receptions, great place for a private lu’au rehearsal or reception and finally The Lava Point – extraordinary view for intimate ceremonies of two to four people. The point is located near the picturesque Kapalua Bay Golf Course signature fifth tee, backdrop of Hawaiian sunsets and crashing surf- only available for sunset ceremonies, most couples incorporate a circle of flowers and traditional Hawaiian ceremony.

Lu'au ** Photographer Ron Starr

Reception Venues such as the Beach House Lawn – a traditional Hawaiian lu’au shown here  (Photographer Ron Starr)  work well in this space for large groups, The Anuenue Room  offers an elegant reception location on property featuring a marble bar, hardwood floors in the center,  and art pieces created by Maui artists. The Anuenue rooms opens to a spacious open-air lanai with views of Honolua Chapel, the Bay Golf Course and the Pacific Ocean, could be used for cocktail hour and then full plated sit down dinner as well  and The Plantation Ballroom  with indoor space and an expansive outdoor lanai this venue provides an elegant setting for receptions.  Decorated with soft-colored wall coverings, hand-carved mill-work and moldings, beautiful crystal chandeliers with incredible views of the Pacific Ocean and West Maui Mountains.
Once you have decided upon your venue  the culinary team  can take care of arranging anything from  a Lu’au such as the one featured in this photo for your rehearsal dinner, international brunch, cocktail receptions followed by a plated wedding dinner, and then as your guests dance the night away and need a little extra energy to keep going surprise them with a Dessert & Specialty Coffee Station. Wedding Cakes by the pastry team are amazing to go along with your taste, theme or color scheme  you will have a hard time choosing between fondant or butter creme, french dots or swiss dots, tropical fruits or fresh island flowers – then have to choose  between flavors such as  Chocolate Kahula Cake, White cake with white chocolate Mousse and fresh raspberries or White cake with white chocolate mango mousse – this may be he hardest decision of all to make – or  if you can’t decide  have a cupcake station and choose a few of them.
Regardless of  which amazing wedding package that  you select,  there are many wedding A La Carte options that you can add to complete your magical ceremony.
