Five of my favorite Spas of Hawai’i Oct 11

One of the hardest parts of my job is being able to answer What is your favorite? (pick a category) in Hawai’i, that is always such a hard question to answer, or to narrow down because there are so many wonderful candidates for every category whether that be spa, restaurant, luau, activity or island. Everyone has a different hot button that they really need to include on their vacation to have a wonderful time, for me  including a visit to the spa is always at the top of my list. Hawai’i has so many wonderful spas it was hard to narrow down to a short list of five of my favorites, but here goes:

Number 1

Kapalua Spa

Kapalua Spa -Located at The Ritz-Carlton Club and Residences, on the shores of Kapalua Bay-(Maui) is truly a seaside sanctuary. From the moment you enter the bamboo garden, the sound of water helps to transfer you to a place of serenity and calm. Embracing the healing properties of water and natural minerals from the islands with signature treatments such as Journey through the Ocean and ‘Awa & Cacao Lomi Wrap. Body and skin therapies are available such as Ali’i Kula Lavender Scrub and Organic Ocean Facials, a full menu of massages including Lomi Lomi(A healing art form from old Hawai’i meaning to rub) which can be preformed in 19 single and couples treatment rooms including 10 outdoor private bungalows that are truly amazing. Follow up your treatment in the tranquil relaxation rooms with sauna, steam,or cold rain showers.
Other Spa amenities include: A full service beauty salon, fitness facility with state-of-the-art Kinesis Circuit System, Yoga studio overlooking Kapalua Bay, Saline Lap Pool and sunning deck, a juice bar and retail boutique. For more information contact them (808) 665-8282

Hawaiian experiences such as LomiLomi Massage, LomiLomi Hula Massage(great for couples) Opu Huli Massage, Pohaku Pa’a(Hawaiian Hot Stone) or choose one of their signatures  Fire and Ice Pa’akai therapy.
Lava Sauna Experience: Open air sauna, warm llilli stones under your feet, a mixture of black volcanic clay is given to you so you can smooth it on your skin-when the mud dries-your stress dries too and is rinced away under a private outdoor rain shower, followed by re-moisture to your skin with signature oils.

So many reasons to get married in Hawai’i Mar 29
Amazing Locations
Congratulations on your engagement!
Let the search begin for the perfect location to have the ceremony of your dreams. As you begin to think about your guest list, wedding dates and possible locations I hope that you will include a destination wedding in Hawai’i on your list of options.
It is so easy to get married in Hawai’i:
** You do not need to be a resident of Hawai’i or even a citizen of the United States to be married in the Hawaiian Islands** No waiting period and no blood test** Simply complete a marriage license application and then you and  your future spouse must appear together before an official marriage license agent on the island you choose, currently the license fee is $60 cash ** Your marriage license will be valid for 30 days and after your ceremony a marriage certificate will be mailed to you.
Amazing locations – The islands of Hawai’i are truly one of the most romantic places on earth,so many beautiful options to choose from for your ceremony from simple and elegant on the beach such as this beach ceremony at Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows, lush rainforest throughout the islands, amazing botanical gardens, fern grotto, onboard a boat at sunset, by a waterfall, historic church or oceanfront chapel, beachfront restaurants such sa The Beach House Restaurant on Kauai , privately owned venues such as the White Orchid Beach House ,and I work with the wedding team at many resorts closely to plan my clients weddings as well. In addition several popular Luau venues such s Old Lahaina Luau on Maui and  Paradise Cove Luau on Oahu offer wedding packages before the luau and the wedding party can attend the luau for your celebration dinner or reception.

Fresh Orchids

So many Hawaiian Cultural Elements can be combined into your ceremony such as a lei (the symbol of love and aloha) worn by both the bride and groom whether a lei of flowers around the neck or a woven floral headband for the bride and an open strand of maile leaves for him. Blessed to have so many beautiful flowers that grow fresh on the islands such as orchids, plumeria, lokelani rose, ginger flowers, pikake, tuberrose just to name a few and when blended with more traditional wedding flowers -so romantic. Hawaiian Kahu (Ministers) will often incorporate their native language into the ceremony through beautiful chants or songs, others will dress in their native Hawaiian attire, many other beautiful cultural elements can be added.
Planning a destination wedding from afar can be stressful that is why it is so important to work with a travel professional and an experienced wedding coordinator so that together they can make sure you have the wedding of your dreams and no detail is left to chance. Every detail that you would normally have to consider when planning your wedding at home will be addressed from time, location, photographer, flowers, food, music, wedding cake, color scheme and wedding theme. Your travel professional will assist in coordinating accomodations, flights, rental cars for the wedding party as needed.
Once the ceremony is over,  you are already in the pefect place for your Honeymoon, whether you elect to remain on the same island for honeymoon or take a short flight to a neighbor island there are so many activities and experiences on each of the islands from sunset dinner cruises, waterfalls to explore, horseback riding, kayak to a secluded cove for a private picnic, oceanfront couples massages  the choice is endless.

Hawai’i Island – Outdoor Science Classroom Feb 28

Oceanography

Visitors have always been drawn to Hawai’i (The Big Island) because  of world class resorts, championship golf courses, big game  fishing , waterfalls and so much more, but many do not realize the island is also an amazing outdoor science classroom. Hawai’i Island has something amazing around every bend in the road with science adventures in the areas of Oceanography/Marine Science, Volcanoes and Volcanology, Astronomy, Geography/Biology/Natural History, Aquaculture/Agriculture and Renewable Energy Resources.  Regardless of where you are staying on the island  there are a multitude of places to visit, coded maps to help you locate some of the sites and there are several tour operators that specialize in these areas of exploration as well. Easy access to many of these areas of interest  would make this a wonderful island for families to make their family vacation a wonderful opportunity to learn,so much more exciting than a school class room. Nothing compares to seeing the steam escaping from a volcano, going down into a lava tube and seeing the turtles swimming in a tide pool. The Manta Ray Experience  by far is one of the unique experiences of my life.Dolphin Quest program at the Hilton Waikokoa Village Resort gives visitors the opportunity to interact with dolphins through several programs led by marine mammal experts.
Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park

Most people have seen a fiery eruption or red hot lava flow from at least Kilauea, even if just on The Weather Channel,  but Volcanoes National Park actually features two of the world’s most active volcanoes Kilauea and Maunaloa. Within the 500 square mile park visitors  can see the process of volcanoes over the last 70 million years, calderas, pit craters, cinder cones, dried lava lakes, sulfurous cracks and fissures, lava tubes (Thurston being the most famous). Home to the legendary Hawaiian volcano goddess Pele. Visitors will enjoy their visit to the park so much more if they take time to visit the Visitor’s Center first for a quick course in geology, natural history, park layout and safety. You will want to also visit the Observatory, Jaggar Museum perched on Kilauea Crater, and the Thurston Lava Tube, all located on the 11 mile Crater Rim Drive. The park is so big you’ll want to drive but be sure and get out along the way and hike some of the 150 miles of marked trails — Park rangers will also advise you if any active lava flows are accessible during your visit. For the latest eruption updates and geneal park info www.nps.gov/havo or call (808) 985-6000.

Fish Ponds

Aquaculture  and agriculture have always been an important part in the live of native Hawaiians, especially ancient Hawaiian Fishponds such as those at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel, Waikoloa Beach Marriott, Kaloko Honokohau National Park and the recently renovated Keauhou Resort Heiau project are great examples of fishponds. There are also several land-based farms  that are so interesting  such  as Hawaii Vanilla, Kona Coffee Farms,Hamakua  Mushrooms and the festive Hilo Farmers Market  is one of the best open markets in Hawai’i where you can sample and purchase wonderful fresh local produce, fresh flowers for your room during your visit, have a fresh fruit smoothie or purchase hand crafted items. Hawai’i AgVentures operated by the Big Island Farm Bureau offers a variety of family farm tours. If you are into Renewable Energy Resources  you might want to visit Kahua Ranch in North Kahala in addition to other tours they also provide their own power with wind turbines  or you can contact them  (808) 882-4646. Being blessed with lots of sunshine and strong trade winds Hawai’i Island has the potential to be an international showcase for alternative renewable energy resource exploration.

Maunakea

Polynesians  used the stars to guide their voyages around the Pacific  and ultimately to discover the Hawaiian Islands, so how fitting that Astronomy would also be such an important part of the opportunities of discovery available on Hawai’i Island. Located 13,796 feet high on the summit of Maunakea, you will find 13 astronomical observatories and is considered the world’s best observing site. Beginning with the first telescope in 1968, several groundbreaking discoveries have been made from the various telescopes, there are are more in the plans to be added in the future, making this the home of some of the largest telescopes in the world. For sure a visit to the summit would be a highlight of your visit to Hawai’i Island – I suggest you take a tour such as Mauna Kea Summit Adventures  or Hawai’i Forest & Trail as the weather conditions can be unpredictable and severe.  ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center of Hawai’i   in Hilo  is another wonderful opportunity to learn about the 13 observatories located on Maunakea plus a full-dome, state of the art planetarium, plus 3-D presentations of data collected from the Subaru Telescope – plus several unique experiences that tie Native Hawaiian Culture and lanuguage to today’s astronomical discoveries. Located at the University of Hawai’i Hilo Science and Technology Park   www.imiloahawaii.org     contact them (808) 969-9700 , also  a wonderful cafe and gift shop.

The Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows Nov 23

The Mauna Lani Bay Hotel

The Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows is Hawai’i Islands premier cultural and eco-friendly resort. When asked how to best describe this resort, by my fellow Hawaii Master Destination Specialist, I have to honestly answer them it is just a feeling that you have for this resort. Hard to define since it is not cut from the typical cloth of chain resorts, where visitors have an expectation of the resort based upon other resorts.
From the moment you step into the multi-level open air lobby, you are greeted by the sound of cascading waterfalls, tropical birds,  visions of lush tropical foliage and ponds filled with koi fish and baby green sea turtles – no wonder Travel & Leisure names this resort “Top Hotels of the World” on a regular basis.
This secluded oceanfront oasis  is so much more than just a hotel , it is a journey of relaxation and luxury. With three miles of pristine coastline to explore the choice is yours to do everything or nothing at all but catch a nap in one of the hammocks.
Three miles of pristine coastline

Complimentary snorkeling equipment to explore the calm coves, historic tours of petroglyphs, educational fish and turtle feeding tours, beach cabanas, sand volleyball, jogger’s amenity station. Explore the resort on one of the many bicycles available for guest to use or take the shuttle service throughout the resort.  Two World class golf courses on property along with tennis facilities as well as a state of art fitness center.  My personal favorite the award winning Mauna Lani Spa resembles a Hawaiian village with thatched outdoor hale(huts) two natural lava saunas,a meditation pavilion, outdoor baths and a watsu pool.

The Eva Parker Woods Cottage

Since opening in 1983, the Mauna Lani has always remained true to the Hawaiian practice of malama’aina or responsible stewardship of the Land . Preserving Hawaii’s culture is part of the Mauna Lani  guest experience, led by Danny Akaka, Jr. guest can enjoy a selection of interactive activities that provide an island culture experience first hand – The Eva Parker Woods Cottage shown here is a mini museum full of Hawaiian artifacts as well there is a cultural center in the lower lobby of the main building as well.

Many brides and grooms from around the world have said “I do” at Mauna Lani  see my earlier blog post about Mauna Lani Weddings for more details .

Mauna Lani Weddings Jul 10

Mauna Lani Bay Hotel Weddings

Having made the decision  to have a destination wedding  for some is the easy part, now begins the daunting task of deciding where to have your wedding .  With so many  islands  and so many resorts , how do you  begin to  narrow your choices? For me as a destination wedding specalist , the most important thing I do  is listen to my bride and groom decribe what they want their magical day to be like , and then knowing who to call to make this happen . The Hawaiian islands are blessed to have so many wonderful  locations to choose from ,  but  the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows on the Big Island is always  at the top of my list.

For sure, Mauna Lani is a world class resort, sitting on an incredible beach, remarkable guest accommodations, championship golf on two 18 hole courses , an amazing spa and a myriad of dining and activities for the bride and groom  and their guest, but one of the main reasons for considering booking  your destination wedding at Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows is their Director of weddings and Romance  Pinkie Crowe.  Together with  her  wedding and catering sales team, Pinkie has helped my clients create such amazing romantic memories. The bride and groom need to be guest of the hotel or a minimum of two nights.

Linda Dancer and Pinkie Crowe

As registered guest of the resort , you may choose from many beautiful sites : panoramic ocean view, ancient Royal Hawaii Fishponds, tropical garden settings and many other options reminiscent of Old Hawaii. I can work with Pinkie to arrange special group rates  for you and your guests, we will need a minium of 10 rooms  for special group rates. Once you have decided upon your special date, a group room agreement will confirm your wedding date and location.  For smaller wedding parties the wedding date and locations can be reserved 60 days prior to your event ,but bride and groom need to be guest of the hotel.

I know there are so many wonderful options throughout the Hawaiian Islands to host your destination wedding, but I know Pinkie and her staff would certainly love the opportunity to plan your destination wedding, and what an incredible resort for your honeymoon. Checkout my photo album of the resort on my Facebook page .

Relaxation Found Feb 24

RELAXATION

Webster’s dictionary  defines relaxation as the act of relaxing of the body or mind; or the condition of being relaxed. Everyone has their own definiton of exactly what relaxation means to them, and exactly what it takes for them  to be relaxed. Many people need to be completely unplugged from their daily enviroment of  the office, cell phones, lap tops and other electronic devices that although they make our lives easier, in a way they also hold us hostage . I know for me, I fall into that category and  the following help me to find  rest, relaxation and peace when I go on vacation .

Incredible  Resort Pools

Hawaii is know for many things, definitely  incredible resort pools  should be on that list . Among my favorites are the  Four Seasons Wailea ,  Ritz-Carolton Kapalua  and  Fairmont Kea Lani

The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua

Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea

Four Seasons Pool

Fairmont Kea Lani, Maui

Beautiful  Beaches

Beautiful beaches can be found throughout  the Hawaii Islands. Three of my favorites  are beautiful white sand beaches but throughout the islands you will also find  shades of black and golden sand due to volcanic activity.

Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows

Four Seasons Resort Hualalai at Historic Ka'upulehu

Mauna Kea Beach Hotel

Hammocks

Hammocks beg you to unplug  and let go  for  a while, to enjoy the peaceful breeze, the sound of the wind in the palm trees, the smell of tropical flowers wafting throught the air. Close your eyes for a few moments and be carried away.

Hilton Waikoloa Village

The Modern Honolulu

The Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows

What is your idea of relaxation ?

Can you see yourself laying by one of these resort pools , on one of these beautiful beaches  or stealing a few private moments in one of these hammocks ?
